Our Commitment to Safety

B&OI has had a formal safety program in place since 1993. A Safety Committee, made up of both elected and appointed associates, oversees safety progress within the company. The C.O.O. participates on the Safety Committee as the Corporate Safety Officer and communicates key findings and action steps to B&OI’s Executive Council (the company’s most senior leadership). B&OI is dedicated to the reduction of workplace hazards as a clear “win-win” situation for both associates and the company. Fewer injuries mean more secure and satisfied associates, but they also result in lower staff turnover, higher productivity, and reduced expenses.

The B&OI Safety Program includes the following elements:

  • Training for new associates on safety procedures, hazardous materials, and injury prevention.
  • A defined accident investigation process that seeks to prevent further occurrences.
  • Data collection and feedback to managers and associates on type and frequency of injuries.
  • Safety as a standing agenda item for all monthly Operations meetings.
  • Quarterly formal inspection of facilities for potential safety hazards.
  • An annual safety campaign, which seeks associate observations regarding potential hazards and how to prevent them.
  • An Operations incentive program, which features safety as a key component.
