Sustainability Practices

B&OI looks toward reaching a sustainable environment from the ground up. Seeking a total, environmental approach for the products we specify, deliver, install, maintain and warranty. Durable products that last longer and our customers keep longer – keeping waste out of landfills every year. Sustainable products that understand the relationship between work and ecological environments. At Bank & Office Interiors, we believe that sustainable design is sustainable leadership. We have a very strong commitment to the environment. In fact, protecting the environment is a core value. It is, and shall remain, a foundation on which we conduct our business.

Active Pursuit of Waste Reduction

Bank & Office Interiors is committed to being a corporate citizen in environmental stewardship through recycling, reuse, refurbishment and the promotion of As-Is product. In an effort to maintain sustainable practices for Move Services, we supply either recycled boxes or rentable crates, reducing cardboard usage. Each B&OI office location participates in recycling programs. All workstations are equipped with paper recycling receptacles. Forms, marketing documents and other internal documents are distributed electronically and printed on an as-needed basis. In addition, all copiers and printers use recycled paper that made from 30% post-consumer use material. We also participate in the aluminum and newspaper recycling in the break rooms.

Our Operations Warehouse recycles approximately six (6) tons of cardboard and 10 bales of plastic a month. Disposal of materials such as paint, paint thinner and wood stains are managed by FBN Enterprises, environmental consultants. In an effort to keep furniture products out of landfills, B&OI provides refurbishment services. In the last few years we have refurbished 2,100 panels and repainted 1,000 pieces of furniture. In addition, we purchased and resold 450 As-Is stations.

Disposition of Furniture

B&OI / Steelcase have End of Life Programs so that when companies find that they have excess furnishings that they no longer need, Steelcase and B&OI can assure that these assets be re-used or recycled responsibly and diverted from landfills. At our local level, we work with area resellers, charitable organizations and recyclers to match a company's outdated inventory with local area needs. When a match is not readily available, Steelcase and the B&OI work together using the Environmental Partnership Program.

B&OI supports clients to evaluate, select and connect to an environmentally responsible method of managing their product at the end of its intended use. Leveraging our extensive local network along with a national network of recyclers, resellers and non-profit agencies and charitable organizations, we can provide a variety of alternatives to sending unused furniture into landfills. Depending on the type and quantity of furniture involved, one of these options could be selected as a more viable sustainable choice:
