Company History

Founded by Ralph Devin, Bank & Office Interiors (B&OI) began operations in Seattle in 1934. B&OI has since grown to be the largest, full-service, office furnishings dealership in the Northwest. Experience has taught us that effective work places don’t come about by chance. We believe that in order to sustain value, we must provide resources with knowledge and experience in the creation of dynamic workspaces. Our focus is to meet and exceed our customer’s expectations.

BKM Enterprises purchased B&OI in 1986. BKM Enterprises, founded in 1933, began in a single room of an elegant, old mansion in Hartford, Connecticut. Today, BKM is a national organization with several locations throughout the United States. Additionally, they are part of the Steelcase Network - a group of 450 national dealers authorized by Steelcase to provide a broad range of services to national accounts.

Throughout BKM Enterprise's history, they have been proactive in their focus on services. BKM has consistently been at the forefront of our industry by providing innovative services to their market. BKM strives to provide the marketplace with vertically integrated solutions to customers' workplace needs. These services focus not only on product but also on the services that relate to pre- and post-acquisition costs of furniture. BKM does not only continuously develop new services for their customers; they are also examining new practices and methods to deliver integrated solutions.

In February 2000, B&OI was purchased from BKM by the local owner-operator team upon establishing Workspace Development LLC. Today, B&OI works in partnership with our BKM sister dealers in support of national customers requiring multi-state facility and furniture service. Together, we offer an integrated approach with a single point of contact for products and services.

We have been affiliated with Steelcase since our first day in business. Our history has made for a strong and integrated relationship with our primary manufacturer, Steelcase. To date, B&OI is very proud to be the only Washington State Steelcase dealer presented with the Steelcase Exemplary Performance Award.
